HIGHAMS PARK: Tesco to submit another superstore plan

TESCO will submit another proposal for a 24-hour superstore in Highams Park.
A number of previous bids by the retail giant for permission to build on the industrial area adjacent to Larkshall Road have failed.
But the company have revised plans to include a large housing development, independent shops and a community centre, as well as large Tesco store with 350 underground parking spaces.
The company's most recent proposal was rejected by the Government following a public inquiry, on the grounds that the development was not in keeping with the surrounding area.
Tesco says it has learned from the inquiry's decision and have addressed them in the new application.
The company's first proposal was turned down by the council in February 2005, but new proposals were approved later the same year.
However, then London Mayor Ken Livingstone overturned the authority's decision on the grounds that the proposals contavened the London Plan and the Town & Country Planning Act 2000.
Tesco will exhibit its plans at Hale End Library, Castle Avenue, Highams Park, on Thursday until Saturday.
